Wits Anglo American Digital Dome

Celebrating 100 Years of Wits University and African Astronomy with VR Capture

Welcome to VR Capture’s page dedicated to our exciting contribution to the Wits 100-year celebration and the creation of its new Anglo American 8k Digital Dome’s! We’re thrilled to have played a significant role in marking this historic milestone and sharing the story of Wits University’s profound impact on astronomy and education in Africa.

Our Contribution: Crafting Immersive Experiences

At VR Capture, we understand the power of immersive experiences. To honour the 100-year journey of Wits University and its Planetarium, we teamed up with astronomers, planetarium technicians, and visionary thinkers to create two stunning full dome films. These films not only dive into the rich history of the Planetarium but also highlight its pivotal role in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the entire continent.

Bridging the Gap: Innovating Through Technology

Our films expertly combine cutting-edge technology with artistic storytelling to provide viewers with an unforgettable experience. Using 360-degree video, animations, drone footage, and 3D modeling, we bring concepts like black holes, CERN, and the Naledi skull to life. The visual journey is further enhanced by original musical compositions and immersive 5.1 surround sound.

Pioneering the Future of Education

Our films are not just visuals; they’re immersive experiences that take the audience on a journey through time, space, and knowledge. With stunning 8k resolution, we ensure that every detail is captured with breathtaking clarity. Our animations showcase mesmerising views of phenomena like black holes and CERN, offering an up-close perspective that’s both educational and awe-inspiring.

Anglo American Partnership: Shaping the Future

We’re honoured to have showcased the partnership between Wits University and Anglo American, a collaboration that’s transforming the historic Planetarium into the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome. This upgrade is not just about advanced technology; it’s about advancing education and research. The new facility will provide a cutting-edge 360-degree IMAX-like theatre experience, immersing learners, students, researchers, and the public in multidimensional worlds.

Showcasing Remarkable Details

We leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of excellence. Our films feature intricate animations, including images of the enigmatic black hole, technical drawings that offer a sneak peek of the upcoming facility’s design, drone footage that soars over landscapes, and even a mesmerising 3D model of the Naledi skull. Each frame is meticulously crafted to transport audiences into a realm of understanding and wonder.
